Sustainable Luxury Vase
Luxury inherently has a connotation of wastefulness. From enormous gas-guzzling cars to coats made of rare furs and leathers, the concept of luxury is often synonymous with careless and destructive practices. Sustainable Luxury was an attempt to subvert this societally ingrained association by creating products using industrial waste as a source material.
Part of my Sustainable Luxury family of products, this vase was created using paper cut-offs from a printing house, which were then converted into raw paper pulp and molded into a vase. Two different batches of pulp were created, one using white paper and the other using colored paper. By using the white paper pulp to create the body of the vase and messily applying the colored pulp as an accent, I created a playful product that revels in its imperfections.
